What Is Value Investing?

What Is Value Investing?

Even though I’ve done this for more than 11 years I still love going back and learning the basics because I’m a huge believer in the following…

I’m a huge believer in building a solid foundation of knowledge before moving on to more advanced things I want to learn… This goes for any aspect of life.

And basic Value Investing, Investing, and Financial education are severely lacking and non – existent to most people in the US and around the world.

Most kids, when they get out of high school, don’t even know how to do any of the following – and most don’t even know what many of these things are…

  • How to sign a check
  • How to get a credit card
  • Knowing what a credit card is
  • Knowing how to positively use a credit card without getting yourself into trouble
  • What basic investing is
  • How to open a bank account
  • What debt is – let alone examples of good and bad debt are
  • What is an interest rate
  • The differences between speculating and investing
  • What value investing is
  • And so much more…

I gave a talk at my local library last week to local high school students, giving them all their options after high school, as most of them had only heard something like, “go to college”, as their only option.

I’ll release these videos soon.

In this new semi – regular series, we’re going to tackle these concepts to help bring basic financial, investing, and value investing literacy and knowledge to people.

Why?

To reinforce the basic concepts to continue building a solid foundation of knowledge.

But we’re also doing this to educate people about investing, value investing, and finance. The more people know about basic financial and investing literacy, the better off we’ll all be.

Because if you have basic financial and investing literacy, you’re far better equipped and able to make sound financial decisions, and either to avoid or have the ability to get out of poverty.

But even when people do want to learn about a topic they get overwhelmed with, terrible and / or useless and dangerous information. An example of this is the video below.

In this series, you’re going to get real world, practical, and usable advice on basic financial, investing, and value investing knowledge.

Since this is a value investing blog dedicated to developing the world’s best value investors, we’re starting this series by answering one of the most basic questions we all have when we first learn about value investing – What Is Value Investing?

In the 5 – minute video below I give my definition of what value investing is, and is not. And explain how the concepts of value investing you already use every day.

I did a quick Google search with the words What is value investing? And this is how many ‘answers’ Google found.

It’s certainly a lot simpler than 5.5 million answers suggest on Google.

Value investing is simply buying something for less than its worth… Of course it gets more nuanced than this when we get to how to value something to find out its true worth – I talk about this in my courses and other series – but at its basic level, that’s all value investing is.

I go into some specific real – world – not stocks – examples in the video above.

If anyone makes it more difficult than that at a basic level, you need to run away from them.

I’m a huge believer in the following quote by Einstein…

And work to do this in every aspect of my life… Learning about value investing, finance, and investing should be no different, but most make it super complex.

It’s not…

I hope to prove that to you and help you learn a lot in this series as we get going.
